Have you ever been to an urban food forest? Did you help us establish one (or a few) of the seven Benicia demonstration food forests? We are inviting you to see all seven budding permaculture demonstration food forest established between 2015 and 2016.

On May 20th you will have a chance to visit all seven Benicia demonstration food forests! Convene at our community garden, Avant Garden at the corner of First and D Street at 9am to register, receive itineraries, maps, grab some coffee or tea, and meet other attendees. After a brief talk, the homes will be open 10am-2pm.

Some demonstration yards are within walking distance of each other. We strongly encourage carpooling while touring the yards for ease of travel and for the company of (new or old) friends!

Come see how even just rainwater retention in the ground and drip irrigation can work with various plants, selected either for high yield food- producing capacity or for their supporting role in thriving ecosystems, to create a vibrant, varied, wise water garden. Ask our food forest keepers questions, enjoy the gardens, be inspired by each of the seven unique, custom-designed Benicia Sustainable Backyard demonstration food forests, and get ideas on how you can work them into your own yard!

This event is FREE. Suggested donation, $10. Pay the day of when registering at Avant garden.
