DESCRIPTION:DIY Air Quality Workshop\nWhat is in the air we breathe? Where does air pollution come from? What can we do to reduce our air pollution and protect our homes? On Oct. 8\, Nick Spada\, a scientist at the Air Quality Research Center of the University of California\, Davis\, will be joining us at the Fairfield Civic Center Library to answer all these questions and lead a workshop on how to build a cost-effective home air filter. While the class is open to anyone interested in air quality\, we will be giving away the materials to build your own air filter to the first 10 Fairfield residents who register. Learn more and register here.

DESCRIPTION:Join us on Oct. 21 & Oct. 28 to learn about sustainable landscape design and help install a shade-providing and air-purifying garden based on permaculture principles in Fairfield! The goal of this garden to both provide fresh produce\, and to improve the walkability of the street by combatting the urban heat island effect. \nThis public\, hands-on installation workshop series will create an environmentally resilient garden in Fairfield: providing an opportunity to learn about rainwater capture and how to plant and mulch for a water-wise\, sustainable garden that builds healthy soil. \n*For homeowner privacy\, address will be included on ticket* \nDay 1: Saturday\, October 21-Earthworks \n\nLearn how to create swales\, which are trenches that capture rainwater in the ground\, divert roof water swales\, and sheet mulch to protect and build healthy soil\nLearn small-scale strategies to grow plants during drought conditions\nVolunteer tasks: digging a swale\, moving and spreading wood chips.\n\n*Wear closed-toe shoes\, sun protection\, bring gloves and a refillable water bottle \n* Lunch will be provided \n*Bring your own lunch if you have specific dietary needs \nDay 2: October 28-Planting \n\nLearn about the plants selected and their functions in the garden.\nVolunteer tasks: planting the garden\n\nIf you have any questions please contact alex@sustainablesolano.org
