SUMMARY:Intro to California Food Forests Talk
DESCRIPTION:Saturday\, February 25 \nIntro to California Food Forests\n10 am-12 pm\, Heritage Presbyterian Church\, Benicia \nPlants\, like people\, thrive in community. As an ecological designer who works with permaculture strategies\, Joshua Burman Thayer appreciates how nature evolves its plant communities so each member benefits from its associations with the others. That’s valuable knowledge to bring into the garden. Permaculture is a way of design that links resources\, use and harvest into a connected whole. Although it is a complex system of design\, permaculture is perfectly suited to community-scale production. Learn more in this informative talk. Register here.

SUMMARY:(Suisun City) Demonstration Resilient Garden Installation: Day 2 of 2
DESCRIPTION:Join us on December 10 to learn about sustainable landscape design and help install a drought\, fire and flood-resistant garden based on permaculture principles in Suisun City! This is a neighborhood expansion\, there will now be two gardens on this block! \nRegister here! \nThis public\, hands-on installation workshop series will create an environmentally resilient garden in Suisun City providing an opportunity to learn about rainwater capture\, water-efficient drip irrigation and how to plant and mulch for a water-wise\, sustainable garden that builds healthy soil. This garden is being installed as a response to the home and yard entirely burning in a 2020 fire. In fact\, the large maple tree in the front was the only thing that survived. We hope that this project will serve as an example of how we\, as a community\, can respond to environmental hazards and lift each other up. \nSaturday\, Dec. 10-Planting & Drip Irrigation \n\nThe focus of this day will be learning about the plants selected and their functions in the garden.\nVolunteer tasks: planting the garden and installing drip irrigation.\nWe will also have the opportunity to visit an existing food forest across the street to visualize what a matured garden looks like.\n\n* wear closed-toe shoes\, sun protection\, bring gloves and refillable water bottle \n* Lunch will be provided. \n*Bring your own lunch if you have special dietary needs

SUMMARY:(Suisun City) Demonstration Resilient Garden Installation: Day 1 of 2
DESCRIPTION:Join us on December 3 to learn about sustainable landscape design and help install a drought\, fire and flood-resistant garden based on permaculture principles in Suisun City! \nDay 1: Saturday\, Dec. 3-Earthworks \n\nLearn how to create swales\, which are trenches that capture rainwater in the ground\, divert roofwater swales\, sheet mulch to protect and build healthy soil\nLearn small scale strategies to grow plants during flood and drought conditions\nTour an existing demonstration food forest garden across the street\nVolunteer tasks: digging a swale\, moving and spreading wood chips.\n\nDay 2: Saturday\, Dec.
