Pair that tomato with corn and you’ve got the start of a healthy\, seasonal salad perfect for a light summer dinner. Join Stephanie Oelsligle Jordan\, Sustainable Solano’s Local Food Program Manager for a live cooking demonstration of a Summer Cornbread and Tomato Salad\, featuring fresh produce and herbs from local Solano County farms. Chef Steph will also discuss adapting the recipe for different flavor profiles\, storing produce so it lasts longer\, and options for preserving these summer ingredients for the months ahead. Armijo High School runs one of Sustainable Solano’s most productive garden programs through their garden club! These public\, hands-on installations will be held to expand the garden to add in wind-blocking shrubs and an artichoke guild\, and for support with other needed maintenance\, providing an opportunity to learn about permanent beds\, and permaculture. The workdays follow a school-organized garden beautification day on Aug. 11.
