SUMMARY:(Online) CEQA: What Changes to This Environmental Law Could Mean for Communities
DESCRIPTION:CEQA has been California’s strongest environmental justice and conservation law\, but changes last year have weakened it. Last year the California State Legislature passed Senate Bill 131\, which was signed into law by the governor. SB 131 was introduced and passed in conjunction with AB 130\, a bill that was intended to make building affordable housing faster and easier. \nSB 131\, however\, goes much further\, allowing projects to move forward without environmental review in a number of circumstances\, including exempting nearly every category of industrial manufacturing from review. \nThis community conversation will include a presentation on the history of CEQA\, the changes made through SB 131\, and the efforts underway to restore key protections and residents’ right to know. There will be time for Q&A and discussion at the end. \nLearn more and register here.
