This is a great opportunity to learn about permaculture friendly ways to deal with crabgrass\, and to hear about the wonderful cover crop that is microclover. \nThis public\, hands-on installation workshop will be held to clean up the gardens main annual-growing area and plant the next round of annual plants. Join us the next Friday\, March 15\, at the same time to support with planting new trees and new guilds. DESCRIPTION:Friday\, March 15: Removing crabgrass; planting microclover and spring annuals at Armijo High School Garden (824 Washington Street\, Fairfield). \nRegister here \nJoin us on March 15 from 3:30pm-5:30pm to support the Armijo garden in planting new trees\, shrubs\, and companion plants! This is a great opportunity to learn about permaculture practices\, such as companion planting and the ins and outs of tree guilds\, and the benefits of hedgerows in gardens where wind can be strong. \nThis public\, hands-on installation workshop will be held to plant a few new fruit trees\, add one new guild\, and replace 2 wind-blocking shrubs. Join us the week before\, on March 8\, to support in treating their crabgrass and planting Spring annuals! DESCRIPTION:This beginner-friendly class will introduce attendees to the basics of composting; Composting 101! Come and learn how easy it is to transform your yard waste and food scraps into “gardeners’ gold”. The benefits of making and using compost are many: recycling resources\, saving money and water. This workshop will teach you to make\, harvest and use this valuable soil amendment in your garden. \nRegister here \nCity Church will have a newly built 3-bin system by the class date\, so attendees will have an opportunity for hands on harvesting and composting in their new bin(s). \nThis is the first class in a 3-series class offering on composting. The next two classes will be for intermediate composting information and advanced composting\, respectively. \nThe instructor\, Lori Caldwell\, is a seasoned teacher on all things compost\, gardening\, and sustainable living. She will offer her expertise for this class as well as for the second class in the compost series which you can register for here. \nThis class is funded by Solano County. DESCRIPTION:Join us Saturday\, April 6 for a day of maintenance at the Emmanuel Temple garden. We will be weeding\, spreading a small amount of wood chips\, and planting Spring vegetables. \nRegister here \nThis project is in partnership with Emmanuel Apostolic Church and Emmanuel Arms Inc. This church has served the community with weekly outreach and supply distributions for over 10 years. All of the food grown in this garden goes back to the community in hot meals or as fresh produce. \nThis maintenance day will consist of: \n\nWeeding\, raking wood chips\, spreading soil into beds\, and planting\n\n\nPlease wear closed toe shoes and sun protection! (i.e. hat and sunscreen)\nBring working gloves\, a water bottle\, and a lunch.\nYou will NOT need a copy of your ticket.\nIf you are under 18: your legal guardian must sign a release of liability when you check-in.\nVolunteers should not attend the event if they feel unwell.\n\nIf you have any questions please contact jazzmin@sustainablesolano.org \n– Emmanuel Temple is also looking for active community members that can support the garden on a regular basis.
