Join us to help install a demonstration food forest garden based on permaculture principles in Rio Vista!
This public, hands-on installation workshop series will create a demonstration food forest garden in Rio Vista at a home for Veterans, creating an opportunity to learn about rainwater capture, simple greywater systems that reuse household water and how to plant and mulch for a water-wise garden that builds healthy soil and yields food.
This is a great way to learn techniques and get ideas for your own yard!
Below are details on each hands-on workshop day:
DAY 1: Sunday, April 18 – Greywater
Learn how to install a three-way valve, route used water from the laundry machine out into the landscape and prepare the landscape to receive that greywater.
Volunteer tasks: Moving mulch, digging, helping to install the laundry-to-landscape greywater system
DAY 2: Saturday, May 1 – Planting and Adding Drip Irrigation
Learn what plants help your garden thrive by working together as an ecosystem and how to install drip irrigation systems.
* wear mask, bring gloves, water, and lunch.
**Sustainable Solano Staff will be disinfecting tools and will provide hand sanitizer
