Vallejo
Vallejo is in the furthest southeast portion of Solano County, with a military history and vibrant arts scene. With a population of around 120,000, this city is fairly spread out, and has a lot of communities and businesses adjacent to the shoreline. Vallejo is a special case not only in the Bay, but the country as a whole. The demographics of this city are some of the most diverse and reflective of those in the U.S. Vallejo’s post-industrial state makes for a very economically varied city where factors including inequality and a lack of investment have all created long-standing intergenerational issues that disproportionately impact disadvantaged communities to this day.

Pollution Indicators
The California Communities Environmental Health Screening Tool is used to evaluate communities based on pollution burdens and the characteristics of people living in these communities. This information helps identify California communities that are most affected by different sources of pollution.
With Interstate 80 cutting through Vallejo, poor air quality is one of the distinct environmental challenges some of the city’s neighborhoods face. The city also has high rates for asthma and cardiovascular disease, both which can be worsened by poor air quality. You can learn more about hazards in your neighborhood by following the link above.
