If you’re interested in growing your own food or want to replace your lawn with a more sustainable landscape, join our annual Demonstration Food Forest Tour! These demonstration edible gardens in Benicia and Vallejo are fed by secondary water (roofwater and/or laundry-to-landscape greywater system). This is the perfect opportunity to learn simple techniques that you can apply to your own yard. Learn more and register here.

Ask our food forest keepers questions, enjoy the gardens, be inspired and get ideas on how you can work these design principles into your own yard!

How it will work:

You can choose to tour for the whole day or for half a day on Saturday, April 27

Benicia Demonstration Food Forest Gardens will be open 10 am-1 pm

Vallejo Demonstration Food Forest Gardens will be open 1-4 pm

Itinerary pickup and special events

  • 9-11 am: A detailed itinerary with garden locations will be distributed at Avant Garden in Benicia (400 First St.) This itinerary will include all of the demonstration food forest gardens in Benicia (open in the morning) and Vallejo (open in the afternoon). Scavenger Hunt pick up for youth
  • 9 am: Heath Griffith from Grow with the Flow will give a talk at Avant Garden on “Why Mulch Matters in Sustainable Gardening?”
  • 10:30-11:30 am: Water harvesting guided tour with Soilogical’s Michael Wedgley at Yggdrasil Garden in Benicia
  • 12-1 pm: Itineraries for the Vallejo garden sites (open in the afternoon) will be available in the front of the Global Center for Success building:1055 Azuar Dr(BLDG 733) at Pollinator Pathway
  • 1-2 pm: Guided native plant tour of Pollinator Pathway with Suzanne Briley from Vallejo People’s Garden
  • 2 pm: homeowner of Inspired Garden(Sure-Would Forest) will talk about how he converted IBC totes to capture water and irrigate his garden

We strongly encourage carpooling for ease of travel and for the company of (new or old) friends!
