Did you ever wonder what happens to expired food from the grocery store? Or where you could send extra produce from your garden or fruit trees? It’s important to keep food waste out of the landfill because it creates methane gas that heats the atmosphere, but what are the options? Join Republic Services, Sustainable Solano, Food Is Free Solano and other partners in this virtual conversation to learn about new efforts that divert food from the landfill and channel it to people in need. The Vallejo Food Rescue Project is a pilot program where community partners collaborate to keep food within their own communities, through a hyper-local food distribution system. Find out how you can be involved in this important program, and also learn more about the rollout of SB1383, which requires better management of our food waste.
