Dixon Library Community Garden
About the Dixon Library Community Garden
The Library Board and Sustainable Solano worked with the public to develop this community garden space on B Street in Dixon. The total space is over 24,870 square feet — but only developed 9,000 square feet into a new community garden space. This garden features 16 garden beds (4 of which are at 32″ hip-height for folks with limited mobility), which will be available for folks to rent from the library.
To the existing ring of trees we added a variety of plants, including some that produce fruit. This area is watered by a drip system to minimize the water cost. This will be maintained by volunteers overseen by the library system. We hope to work with the library to install a milpa (bed for corn and squash) in fall 2025, and to get several educational beds planted for the library to use in classes for young adults and children.
Plants and trees along the outer edge of the garden include Mission Fig, Western Redbud, Dark Star Ceanothus, Toyon, Pineapple Guava, Cleveland Sage, California Fuchsia, Narrowleaf Milkweed, Hummingbird Sage, California Buckwheat and Common Yarrow.
