About the Golden Hills Community School Garden
Golden Hills Community School has a number of programs that were very interested in getting their own garden space started. In conjunction with our Youth Wellness Program, we worked with over a dozen students to assemble the garden beds, plant veggies and herbs, and to form some wonderful memories. A variety of programs will be able to use the harvest in the classroom. We are glad this garden will serve as a source of education and fresh produce for students at Golden Hills.
Perennial plants and fruit trees include Dwarf Peach, Dwarf Apple, Dwarf Mandarin Orange, Passion Fruit Vines, Yarrow and Lavender. Annuals planted include Onion, Broccoli, Garlic, Cauliflower, Bok Choy, Spinach, Lettuce, Carrot, Kale, Leek, Beets, Collard Greens.
Each garden bed is protected by a net to prevent the local turkeys from raiding the harvest. This garden features four ADA accessible garden beds. The garden is supported and maintained by Maria Conley. Special thanks to Summer Belloni, environmental literacy program manager for Solano County Office of Education, for all her assistance with the garden logistics.
