May 4, 2023 @ 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm

The Solano Local Food System Alliance meets four times a year, with a focus on having public, educational speakers for each of the meetings.

May 4, 4-6 pm

A discussion about the Farm Bill and its implications for the local food system

Register here

The Solano Local Food System Alliance invites you to learn about the Farm Bill – a massive piece of legislation coming up that affects food security and nutrition programs (i.e. SNAP), habitat conservation, rural development, international trade, energy, farm subsidies and more.

Expert guest speakers at this meeting include Christina Badaracco, registered dietician nutritionist and co-author of The Farm Bill – A Citizen’s Guide, and Sakeenah Shabazz, Policy Director of the Berkeley Food Institute, who describes the Farm Bill as the “Super Bowl” for entities involved in food/ag policy. Together they will provide an overview of the Farm Bill, explain why anyone who eats or pays taxes should be involved, and how both the public and local food policy councils can take action.

This event is part of the Alliance’s quarterly meetings, which focus on educational topics around the local food system. Alliance members and others can be part of the discussion during the second hour of the event.

The Solano Local Food System Alliance includes a wide variety of stakeholders committed to fulfilling the mission of creating an environmentally sustainable, economically viable, socially just and equitable local food system in Solano County.
