Vallejo is drafting a plan to address sea level rise

VALLEJO – For the first time, the city of Vallejo must establish an action plan for how it’s going to combat sea level rise over the next few decades.

This is part of SB 272, a state bill passed in 2023 that requires that local governments come up with strategies to address flooding hazards caused by climate change. The law applies to all coastal cities that fall under the jurisdiction of the San Francisco Bay Conservation and Development Commission, which has been overseeing shoreline regulations for all nine Bay Area counties since 1965.

Bounty of the County Returns Sept. 27-Nov. 7

Bounty of the County, a celebration of Solano County agriculture and chefs, will feature a different restaurant each week starting Sept. 27 and running through Nov. 7. Each restaurant will highlight in-season ingredients grown on local farms in a special free sample item that will be given to restaurant customers that week. Sustainable Solano will highlight the event with weekly videos, including cooking demonstrations by the chefs and farm profiles.

Alana’s This Wonderful World project has highlighted the Pollinator Pathway garden installation with a series of three songs, as well as songs about the installation of Peace of Eden community garden at City Church Fairfield, a series on laundry-to-landscape greywater, and a series inspired by the Vallejo People’s Garden. This is her reflection and the last song in her spring series — it highlights community gardens through SuSol’s Solano Gardens program.

Fellowship Focuses on Environmental Justice, Supports Pollinators in Vacaville

As part of Sustainable Solano’s Environmental Justice Leadership Fellowship, seven students from multiple Solano County cities undertook a research and green infrastructure project in Vacaville. Students focused on the Markham neighborhood, a community grappling with several environmental challenges, and explored possible solutions, including walkability, available green spaces, and usable wildlife habitats.
